Are BMW Z4 e89 reliable?

This generation of Z4 didn’t feature in our most recent reliability survey, but BMW as a brand finished in a highly credible 9th place out of 31 manufacturers in the same survey.

Does a BMW Z4 have a timing belt or chain?

It’s a chain, it doesn’t need changing, but there is a tensioner in there, only time to ever check that is if you happen to do the rocker cover gasket. You can however do the aux belt and AC belt in about 15 minutes flat if they’re looking a bit ropey.

What’s the difference between the BMW Z4 and Z4 sDrive28i?

The new sDrive28i version of the Z4 uses the same basic 2.0-litre engine, but kicks out a much more muscular 242bhp. Again, that’s slightly down on the 30i it replaces, but the new car is hardly slower: 0-62mph takes 5.7 seconds and top speed is electronically restricted to 155mph. The extra 61bhp over the 20i makes the 28i feel seriously quick.

Is the BMW Z4 sDrive28i the most misleading Badgery ever?

Here we have possibly the most misleading badgery of all time. It’s the new BMW Z4 sDrive28i and it’s powered by the company’s new 2.0-litre TwinPower four-cylinder petrol engine that is about to be spread liberally throughout the BMW range including, naturally, the new 3-Series.

Why is the BMW 4-pot engine so different to the Z4?

There’s no wooliness or hanging up of revs. It’s not surprising that the new engine matches the Z4’s 3.0i six-cylinder (which it replaces) for power or that it has an impressively low 159g/km outpouring of C02, what is more surprising is that BMW’s engineers have managed to instill in the four-pot engine a remarkably six-like feel.

Does the new BMW Z4 have an inline-six?

Any new engine is big news to us, but when a new powerplant comes along and replaces one of our favorite engines—BMW’s naturally aspirated inline-six, in this case—we pay extra-close attention. This fall, the base Z4 and 5-series won’t have the perfectly demure and smooth-revving inline-six.
