No. Smart meters use an entirely separate, bespoke wireless system. You don’t need Wi-Fi in your home for it to work and it won’t use your Wi-Fi if you have it. Your smart meter and in-home display communicate via a secure national network which is solely for smart meters.

Can I install sense myself?

Installation. Installation is pretty easy and you can do it yourself if you’re not scared of opening up your electrical panel to expose the primary power lines coming into your home from your utility. Power for the Sense unit can be directly tapped inside the breaker box—just be sure to cut the power before doing this.

Unfortunately if there’s no signal at all in the area your meter is located we wouldn’t be able to offer you a smart meter currently. Although it’s worth checking back in as the signal in your area is subject to change.
