Both 22F and 33F are associated with invasive pneumococcal disease, and they are not contained in the pneumococcal conjugate vaccine licensed for use in adults.
When is Vaxneuvance available?
In July 2021, the FDA approved Vaxneuvance, a new pneumococcal vaccine. Vaxneuvance can be given to adults over the age of 18 and can help prevent invasive pneumococcal disease caused by 15 strains of the bacteria that causes the illness.

The FDA has licensed two new pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCVs) for prevention of invasive pneumococcal disease in adults: Prevnar 20 (PCV20; Pfizer), which contains antigens from 20 serotypes of pneumococcus, and Vaxneuvance (PCV15; Merck), which contains antigens from 15 serotypes.
