The CRAFFT is an efficient and effective health screening tool designed to identify substance use, substance-related riding/driving risk, and substance use disorder among youth ages 12-21.

The CRAFFT can identify an alcohol or cannabis use disorder for emerging adults who screen positive for recent alcohol and/or cannabis use, but its test characteristics are suboptimal due to low specificity. Based on our findings, the CRAFFT would have limited usefulness in this population.

The CRAFFT tool is free to use. The tool is available as a self-administered questionnaire to be completed by a patient and as an interview tool to be administered by a provider. The CRAFFT is available in several languages.
