Can you have just Medicare Part A?
Your Part A coverage will start 6 months back from the date you apply for Medicare (or Social Security/RRB benefits), but no earlier than the first month you were eligible for Medicare. You can only sign up for Part A (if you have to buy it) and/or Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) during the times listed below.

When you are enrolled in GEHA’s Standard, High or Elevate Plus plan, GEHA will waive or reduce some out-of-pocket costs if Medicare is your primary payer for Part A, Part B or both. Inpatient hospital benefits — We waive the deductible, coinsurance and copays if you are enrolled in Medicare Part A.
